How to build a sandcastle

An instruction folder on ‘how to build a sandcastle’. Everyone knows how to build a sandcastle. But it is a good exercise to find out what steps are essential and how to get to know the target audience. How do you design something when the target group can’t read like young children? How do you, as a designer, communicate all the information?

Design for the target audience

A designer needs to understand the target audience. Not because you might make more sales but to make sure it attracts the target group and the communication is clear. This instruction leaflet is for young children who are still unable to read. The bright colour and the childish illustration attract their attention. And the simplicity and the understandable elements like arrows make the information clear to everyone. I’ve tested the steps with the target audience multiple times to be sure all the important steps are covered.
